Celebrating 5th Miri International Jazz Festival: May14-15

Miri International Jazz Festival 2010The Miri International Jazz Festival (MIJF) 2010 promised to deliver another exciting event with wide repertoire of jazz genre already lined up to provide the entertainment.

This jazz festival which has been enjoying a steady growth in popularity will be held at the Pavilion of Parkcity Everly Hotel in Miri from May 14 and 15, 2010.

Organised by the Sarawak Tourism Board (STB), the festival, entering into its 5th year, will see performances from jazz bands from various countries and their genre of jazz includes blues, fusion, world, smooth and Latino beat.

The bands that will heat up the MIJF stage are James Cotton Blues Band (USA), Amina Figarova Sextet (Holland), Ricardo Herz (Brazil), Mellow Motif (Thailand), Michael Shrieve’s Spellbinder (USA), SimakDialog (Indonesia), Norbert Susemihl’s New Orleans All Stars (Denmark/Germany/USA) and Jeremy Tordjman (Switzerland).


Promised to be another signature event for Sarawak’s  tourism calendar, MIJF 2010 is expected to exude similar vibe as in the previous festivals.

Tickets for adults are priced at RM60 per day each and tickets for children between three and 12 years old are priced at RM30 per day each.  Tickets are available on sale at Eclipse Booking Hotline:  +6 03-7729 3829 / +6 016-688 1119. All Visitors’ Information Centres in Kuching, Sibu and Miri, Sarawak will start selling tickets by mid March, 2010.

Sarawak Tourism Board’s Chief Executive Officer, Dato Rashid Khan said STB was targeting at attracting a crowd of 8,000 to the festival this year.

“We are very optimistic in achieving this target in view of the overwhelming respond towards MIJF 2009 which saw a crowd of about 6,000 attending the festival during the two nights”, he enthused.

Besides the good music and company, guests can also enjoy the wide variety of food and beverages as there will be various stalls set up in and around the festival venue.
