Getting Around in Perak


Perak by Air

 Sultan Azlan Shah Airport - Ipoh - Perak - Malaysialpoh's Sultan Azlan Shah Airport can accommodate small to mediumsized planes. From a small Fokker airfield, the airport was expanded in the 1980s to accommodate jet aircraft operation.  Located 6km away from the city, the airport is able to accommodate Boeing 737 aircraft.

Apart of Sultan Azlan Shah Airport, there is an airstrip in Pangkor Islands which provide direct flight from Kuala Lumpur and Penang.

Tekah Airport
Tekah Airport is a small commercial airport in Taiping, Perak. It has been chosen as the hub for Global Flying Hospitals (GFH), an international body that brings humanitarian medical support to developing countries.

Tekah airport is one of Malaysia's oldest airport built. It is build by the British in 1940.

How to Get There
There are taxis plying major routes to Ipoh from Kota Bharu, Alor Setar, Penang, Taiping and Kuala Kangsar in the north and Cameron Highlands, Teluk Intan, Tanjung Malim and Kuala Lumpur in the south.

Charges vary from about RM 6 to RM 20 per person depending on the destination and the color of your nose. Taxis wait for a full load before travelling or, you pay the full load.

Buses
Bus services to the Medan Kidd terminal in Ipoh are from Kuala Lumpur and Butterworth. Several bus companies operate services from the North and South of the country to lpoh. Some offer non-stop service direct while others transit at various points. Routes covered include those originating from Butterworth, Kota Bharu, Kuala Kangsar, Taiping, Lumut and Batu Gajah in the North; and Singapore, Kuala Lumpur and Teluk Intan in the South. Major bus lines include Express Nasional, SPT, Sri Maju, Plusliner and Nice among others.

North bound trains operated by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad (KTMB) or Malayan Railway stop at all major towns of Perak namely Tanjong Malim, Batu Gajah, Ipoh, Kuala Kangsar, Taiping and Parit Buntar.


Re-scheduled Train Timetable For All Train Services To The North
 

Effective from April 28, 2007 and May 1, 2007, KTM Berhad has re-scheduled the timings for all train services to the North, the International Express, Ekspres Langkawi and the Special Ekspres Sinaran Utara.   
 
KTM Berhad had to re-schedule these train services to be able to accommodate the demand of our passengers that travels from Kuala Lumpur- Butterworth including the Padang Besar – Hatyai service.

Schedule of the train services is as follows:

Ekspres Langkawi No.7 (Hatyai -  Padang Besar – Kuala Lumpur) 

Departs Hatyai Station at 1550 hrs (Malaysian time, arriving Padang Besar Station at 1645 hrs / for Immigration clearance.

Departs Padang Besar Station at 1800 hrs, arriving Butterworth Station at 2130 hrs

Departs Butterworth Station at 2200 hrs, arriving Sentral Kuala Lumpur Station at 0645 hrs the following day.

Ekspres Langkawi No. 8 (Kuala Lumpur - Padang Besar – Hatyai) 
 Departs Sentral Kuala Lumpur Station at 2100 hrs, arriving Padang Besar Station at 0945 hrs the following day / for Immigration clearance.

Departs Padang Besar Station at 1030 hrs, arriving Hatyai Station at 1120 hrs

  
International Express No. 35 (Bangkok - Padang Beasar – Butterworth)
Departs Bangkok Station at 1445 hrs (Thai time) arriving Padang Besar Station at 0855 hrs (Malaysian time) the following day / for Immigration clearance

Departs Padang Besar Station at 1000 hrs, arriving Butterworth Station at 1345 hrs


International Express No. 36 (Butterworth - Padang Besar – Bangkok) 
 Departs Butterworth Station at 1420 hrs, arriving Padang Besar Station at 1742 hrs / for Immigration clearance

Departs Padang Besar Station at 1850 hrs, arriving Bangkok Station at 1050 hrs (Thai time) the following day.


Special Ekspres Sinaran Utara No. 4 (Kuala Lumpur – Butterworth)
Saturdays only starting from 28 April 2007.

 Departs Sentral Kuala Lumpur Station at 0825 hrs, arriving at Butterworth Station at 1610 hrs on the same day.

Special Ekspres Sinaran Utara No. 3 (Butterworth – Kuala Lumpur)
Sundays only starting from 29 April 2007.

 Departs Butterworth Station at 1400 hrs, arriving at Sentral Kuala Lumpur Station at 2150 hrs on the same day.
