Have money, will travel in style |

THEY make the world smaller for many affluent Malaysians.
In the fast paced world of business and pleasure, time is of the essence and it is no wonder that the wealthy are paying a bundle to get to their business meetings or holiday destinations quickly.
The wealthy are giving both the business and first-class a miss to travel on air charter.
No more Airbus or Boeing 747. It is now the Lear jet or the Gulfstream.
"And why not," says Major (R) Abdul Razak Omar, the group managing director/chief operating officer of Oxysky group of companies. "If you have money, it would be pointless to spend hours at the airport.
"Malaysians are slowly learning about jet and helicopter charter which is common in Europe and America."
Oxysky charges between US$4,500 (RM16,300) and US$8,000 per hour to charter their planes to any country. Their clients usually travel to Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong and India for business and leisure.

Thai Immigration crackdown on border runners |
|
BANGKOK / PHUKET: In a crackdown on foreigners who "abuse" the tourist exemption rule allowing15-day visit extensions at border entry points, the Immigration Bureau has confirmed and informed ThaiVisa.com of the following new regulation, which went into effect yesterday:
A foreigner who has entered the kingdom four consecutive times on 15-day tourist exemption stamps will not be allowed to leave the country and re-enter Thailand by land.
The only option is to exit Thailand and re-enter via an international airport, which will allow a further 30 day extension of stay in the country.
The Phuket Gazette's partner in the Phuket Forum, Thaivisa.Com, has confirmed the new regulation with the Immigration checkpoints at the Cambodian border and with visa run companies, saying the new regulation is effective from June 1, 2009.

Glass barriers to beat touts |
|
Written by Masami Mustaza/The Sun

KLIA’s elaborate plan to eliminate menace Imagine this: Glass walls. And they can only watch helplessly as their "prey" walks past them.
Come mid-June, this will be the reality that touts at the KL International Airport (KLIA) will be facing when glass walls are put up to prevent them from getting to passengers when they exit the airport's arrival hall.
Malaysia Airports Bhd's (MAB) senior general manager Datuk Azmi Murad told Malay Mail yesterday of elaborate plans to fight the tout menace.
He said that glass walls, measuring eight feet in height, would replace the temporary barriers currently leading from the arrival hall exits.
Similar to the current arrangement, this glass "funnel" stops short of the terminal's wall, providing three exits for passengers:
Out of the terminal, and to either side of the terminal building. The glass walkway's exits will also be closely guarded to ensure that nobody from the outside gets to the passengers in the walkway, making it impossible for touts to approach passengers.

International passport and visa required for haj |
|
Written by Yeng Ai Chun & G.Reetha

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians going for the haj this year would be required to use an international passport, said minister in the Prime Minister’s department Mej-Jen (R) Datuk Jamil Khir Baharom.
He said the passport issued by the Lembaga Tabung Haji would no longer be valid as the Saudi Government had come up with new regulations.
“Pilgrims would also need to apply for a visa. The new regulations would ensure smoother procedures and it would also make it faster for Malaysians to clear immigration as the passports need not be stamped,” he said after launching the third International Conference on Muslim Tourism, Hajj and Umrah 2009 on Thursday.
The conference, themed “Moving Towards Borderless Muslim Tourism,” at the Putra World Tade Centre drew more than 140 local and international delegates.
Jamil Khir said they were also awaiting details from the Saudi Government to determine whether the cost of performing the haj would increase this year.
“Saudi Arabia is upgrading its facilities in Mecca. They are building new buildings and the mosque courtyard is being enlarged.
“There are also new regulations by the Saudi Government on accommodation for pilgrims. Let’s wait for developments,” he said.
