The relaxed Islamic Capital of Kelantan, the "Land of Lightning", with lots of museum and performances for the mind and lots of food stalls for the body. It is situated on the northern bank of the Sungei Kelantan (Kelantan River) and the center of a fertile rice basin, as well as the Kelantan Royal Family.

This is by far the most interesting town on the east coast as well as a travel hub toward the Perhentian Islands, the jungle or Thailand.

Eatingseems to be one of the major things in Kota Bharu because food you got plentyful here. During daytime at the "Central Market" and when the sun goes down the famous "Pasar Malam" or night market comes alive. The food there is excellent : Seafood, fresh vegetables, tofu, stews, nasi...here you can really eat till you burst.

The town's attractions would require one day but the atmosphere & surroundings may be worth a bit longer.
